Girl power through education

In Ethiopia, one of the world's 10 poorest countries, teachers hold classes under trees for children lucky enough to go to "school" at all. Without water, latrines or a roof over their heads, teachers somehow manage to educate a few children under the hot African sun.

For girls, it's even tougher. Having to do family chores, like walking hours to collect water, means girls have less time to attend school. If schools are situated far from a village, parents are less likely to let their daughters attend. And many times any resources that a school has – like books, desks, and sporting equipment – are given to boys instead of little girls.

But in one way Ethiopian girls are lucky. Their government is committed to building schools by partnering with a remarkable non-profit, imagine1day.

imagine1day imagine1day is making a real difference in the lives of Ethiopian girls. They build 4 room schools near villages so girls don't have to walk miles from home. They drill for a water source so that girls don't have to miss school to haul water for their families. They provide sports equipment so girls can participate on teams and have fun.

imagine1day designs schools that educate girls for now and into the future. Each classroom is fully outfitted from desks to school supplies. All of the labor and materials to build each school are sourced locally. All of the teachers are locally trained. When the school is finished, imagine1day plants 2000 trees to provide fruit and support the school economically.

You can help. Because imagine1day's administrative costs are covered by a foundation, 100% of your donation goes to the school.
