Sleeping children around the world

The concept behind the Sleeping Children around the World is a simple one: every child deserves, at a minimum, a clean and healthy place to sleep. And every donor deserves to know that 100% of their gift is reaching children they want to help.

Since 1970, SCAW has been providing bedkits to children in 33 countries around the globe. By 2009, SCAW had collected $23,000,000 and delivered bedkits to a million children. At a cost of $35, each bedkit includes:

• a mat or mattress

• a pillow, sheet, blanket and a towel

• mosquito net (if applicable)

• clothes

• school supplies

* Bedkit contents vary slightly from country to country depending upon local needs.

To keep to its commitment that none of your donation goes to administrative costs SCAW, has found imaginative ways to produce and deliver the kits. Bedkits are manufactured in the host countries using local labor to reduce production and transportation costs. The bedkits are delivered by a team of SCAW volunteer travelers who pay all their own travelling expenses and work in partnership with SCAW's overseas volunteers.

Sleeping children around the world

Every child is photographed with the bedkit, showing the donor's name and country on a label. SCAW mails the photograph back to the donor, providing a timeless way to remember the child who benefited from their generosity.

For 40 years this volunteer-driven charity, has been quietly and effectively giving children around the world a good night's sleep.
